Mark Mercier - Inspiration

Mark Mercier was born and raised in Vermillion, Alberta in a closely knit family. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1997 at the age of 39. He has 3 girls, Ricki, McKenna and Logan. He has been blessed with a successful business career, including most recently, his venture with Titan Supply LP. He remains committed to his many business ventures, charitable involvements and his love of golf.

A small ‘dinner' that was intended to raise a bit of money for Parkinson's evolved, with the help of many friends, family, and business acquaintances, into the Mark Mercier Foundation (MMF).

Our Initiatives

Since its inception, the Mark Mercier Foundation (MMF) has helped individuals and organizations across the Prairies in the following ‘personal' ways:

The Edmonton Huntington Society is a support network for individuals dealing with Huntington's Disease. Each year they host a “Go Cart Race” fundraiser. In 2006 the MMF participated in this event.

The Foundation has contributed to the Edmonton Resource Center ,  the Saskatoon Resource center, a Christmas party and the HSC camp. We were also able to offer support in the way of a laptop for the Edmonton Chapter. MMF has sent a  Saskatoon representative to the national conference, and provided funding for a new Family Services Director.

Glenrose  Hospital-  MMF contributed towards a specialty Pedobarograph (a machine that measures gait and pressure) as part of the Syncrude Gait and Balance Center .

Tourette Syndrome (TS)- Tourette Syndrome affects  kids,  which  makes  it even more heart wrenching. In 2006 we were able to offer support by purchasing an  LCD projector and laptop computer to  help them spread the word about this disease in Alberta , send 10 students to the National Conference in Edmonton and  provide a subsidy for TS children to attend a summer camp. MMF was also able to send two members of the executive to attend teacher's conventions outside of the Edmonton area.

Parkinson's - In 2006 MMF was able to buy an LCD projector and laptop computer; this will allow them to spread the word about this disease in Alberta .

Planned MMF support for 2007-
Two year  commitment for a  social worker for the Movement Disorders Clinic in Edmonton , with an option for a one year renewal.

Huntington Society of Canada, Edmonton and Saskatoon Chapters- both to receive funding for support of 50 individuals through their resource centre. Saskatoon will also receive funding for transport, a laptop and LCD projector.

Parkinson's Society of Canada- will receive funding support as well.

Tourette  Syndrome  Kids' Camp is an area to be supported. MMF will contact  the Foundation to determine their needs.
